Can I use an HD floppy at place of a 2DD one?

No, you can't, unless you turn such HD floppy into its 2DD counterpart. To do so, cover the density identification hole, found opposite to the write-protection hole, with a sticky tape as shown below. However, mind that data recorded on such modified floppy are highly volatile and best not to be stored for longer period of time. You should use such solution only in a situation of last resort.
